Mythos Artist

•The RI.Perspective
Mythos Artist Retreat grows out of Carlotta Mastrojanni’s artistic research, writer, filmmaker, mentor to actors and artists, and author of The Magdalene Book of Fire, and from the Mythos method, a practice that draws on the tools of acting to explore the relationship between body, imagination, and personal expression.
The programme alternates the central Mythos sessions led by Carlotta, visualisation, partner work, repetition, embodied dialogue, and improvisation, with acting coaching by Lorenzo Cioni, Artistic Director of the Focus Movie Academy in Florence, and movement work led by Sibilla de Vuono. The aim is not performance-oriented work, but the opening of spaces for observation and experimentation.
At the heart of Carlotta’s vision is the idea that every person, like every character, exists on multiple levels simultaneously: what appears on the surface, and what remains beneath it.
Mythos proposes an inquiry into presence and the body as a place of knowledge: through sensation and intuition, aspects that are less immediately visible, and rarely accessible in everyday life, begin to surface.
At Ebbio, a restored thirteenth-century farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside near Monteriggioni, the rural rhythm, the surrounding landscape, the circle around the fire, and the shared table outdoors naturally sustain the process.
What participants take with them is not only a creative experience, but a more conscious way of being present, in their work and in their relationships with others.
As Carlotta writes:
“We use the craft of acting not to perform, but to uncover.”
