Yoga & Meditation
• The RI.Perspective
Yoga & Meditation Retreat with Joan Hyman in Morocco is born from the experience of Joan Hyman, a yoga teacher for over twenty-five years and founder of The School of Yoga. Her approach brings together Ashtanga, Iyengar, Ayurveda and Vipassana meditation, with a practice attentive to alignment and to the real needs of the body.
For one week, the journey takes place in a retreat centre outside Marrakech, on the edge of the Atlas Mountains. Among olive groves, earthen paths, gardens, shaded courtyards and a shala open to nature, the centre offers a tangible quiet for the morning practices, the more restorative afternoon classes or workshops, as well as Yoga Nidra and meditation led by Paloma Dorado. The setting allows participants to experience different moments of the practice: movement, listening and pause.
The outings to the Ourika Valley, the Berber villages, from Timalizan to Tagadirt, and to Marrakech, with a local guide and the possibility to choose the length of the walk, also help participants sense how they move, where fatigue begins, when support is needed and when it is time to stop. Between yoga and contact with the Moroccan landscape, those taking part can carry with them a greater capacity to recognise intensity and limits.
