Venetian Shawl Crochet

• The RI.Perspective
Venetian Shawl Crochet Retreat stems from the vision of Olena, textile designer and founder of Jolly Lizard, who has crocheted since childhood, published more than thirty-five patterns and collaborates with Hobbii. Her design approach follows a recognisable direction, built on simple techniques and a conscious use of colour. The teaching covers the construction of the piece, chart reading and working with textured stitches, with individual attention that makes the process accessible even to those with basic crochet skills. Over the week, a small group of women make the Venetian Shawl, an autumn shawl created for the occasion.
The retreat takes place at Albafiorita, a historic agriturismo and organic winery among the vineyards of Friuli, where the small scale of the setting brings together the hours of practice and communal life.
The programme includes a day in Venice with a local guide, a boat trip across the Marano lagoon with lunch in a traditional casone used by local fishermen, a visit to a family-run prosciutto producer in San Daniele and a tasting of the estate’s wines.
At the end, each participant takes home her finished shawl and a working method she can apply to future projects.
