•The RI.Perspective
Somayatra is a journey to be experienced through the body. Mel Clark, a breathwork and movement facilitator, designed it for a small group of capable, independent women, used to looking after everyone, who value the life they have built and wish to feel more a part of it. In her view, it is possible to come to know oneself beyond one’s usual roles: moving, breathing and spending long hours outdoors are ways of observing sensations, needs and limits, bringing the physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions closer together.
On Palawan, among cliffs, jungle and sea, the retreat takes place in a private villa at Buko Beach Resort, in Corong Corong, on the coast of El Nido.
Mornings are devoted to strength work, mobility and yoga, while breathwork, meditation, workshops and rituals are moments of contemplation, personal inquiry and conversation, which Mel shares with the participants. Between one activity and the next, time to rest, write or do nothing allows for reflection on what arises within. Exploring the landscape, including a day travelling by boat among islands and lagoons, is also shaped by natural rhythms, tides and weather, without everything having to be decided in advance.
Mel’s intention is that, after eight days away from home, each woman may return to her everyday routines and relationships with greater attention to her own needs, starting with making room for movement and for slowing down.
