Surf Yoga

•The RI.Perspective
Karen Ramirez, a yoga teacher with Colombian roots, developed her vision for Stay Wavy through her solo travels, seeking connection with herself and others. From this came the idea of finding a sense of home within oneself, even when far from familiar surroundings. Her Surf Yoga Retreat in Playa Gigante, a small village on Nicaragua’s wild coast, invites participants to explore this possibility through movement, getting to know the place and spending time together, recovering a sense of lightness and spontaneity without having to meet other people’s expectations.

Each morning, through vinyasa flow and meditation, Karen brings attention to the body and its sensations to cultivate greater awareness and clarity, while surf lessons offer a chance to observe how we respond to something new, embrace being beginners and give things a try while letting go of the need to control every outcome.

This readiness to step outside our comfort zone also extends to exploring the local surroundings, from the boat trip, the forest experience and the cooking class at Tambo Ranch to conversations around the bonfires on the beach. One evening, a ritual in preparation for the next lunar cycle offers time to slow down and write letters to our future selves about health, work and creativity, relationships and inner growth. The intention is to carry this openness into everyday life in the coming year, along with a concrete question: which desires do I want to bring back to the surface?
