Pilates Surf Wellness
•The RI.Perspective
Sundae Retreats began with an idea from Kelsay Koehler, a Pilates Fusion teacher who, after years in competitive endurance sport and a period of burnout, rethought her relationship with training. Her practice combines classical Pilates, strength, cardio and yoga, inviting participants to approach movement with less emphasis on results and more on the pleasure of feeling strong and comfortable in their bodies. The sessions call for effort while leaving room for laughter.
This vision takes shape in a retreat held in Popoyo, on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast, bringing together a group of women for daily classes, free time to explore the local area, a horseback ride along the beach and sunset yoga. Two days are dedicated to surfing, with sessions timed around the tides and a local guide supporting even those stepping onto a board for the first time. The sauna, cold plunges, spa and pool support recovery between activities, beyond simply taking a break.
Sharing meals and conversation is also central to the experience, with food prepared using ingredients from the garden, local farms and the nearby sea.
The name Sundae evokes a bowl of ice cream to be savoured slowly and in good company: an image that expresses Kelsay’s wish to feel good without turning every habit into something to perfect.
